Top 10: Reasons Why People Buy Apple Products

By: Lifesaver

Ever since the launch of Apple’s first generation iPod back in 2001, Apple products have been gathering a strong fan base at a high rate with no signs of slowing down. Why are people addicted to Apple products?

Disclaimer: This is NOT a “Top 10 Reasons to Buy Apple Products”. This is a Top 10 Reasons WHY THE AVERAGE PERSON BUYS APPLE PRODUCTS.

Because they are a head turner

How many of you get whiplash when you see a new Apple product? Yeah, I’m guilty of that too. Also, Wired Magazine states that: “Apple represents the shiny happy future of the tech industry”. Just ask yourself, what do you think about when you see someone with a MacBook, iPhone, or iPod ?

Because we think they’re sturdy

These things are so damn good looking that they must use high quality materials! The consumer is right in this case, Apple products are indeed made with quality in mind. After Steve Jobs re-established himself as the CEO of Apple, every product released has been perfectly designed right down to the “hold” button itself.

Because we want to feel safer from hackers, phishers, scammers…etc.

“Macs are invulnerable to hacking” was a common phrase the average person would say about Macs a few years ago. That phrase worked on people that have been screwed by viruses on their PCs and desperately need a change. Believe it or not, countless people still believe this to be true. In actuality, as more and more people use Macs, hackers have started exploiting the security flaws in the operating system. Even the Safari web browser is vulnerable to phishing. The browser lacks a built-in phishing filter and other anti phishing technologies. – Macworld. Also, vulnerability statistics from Secunia shows that the Mac OS X has at least 5 times more vulnerabilities per month than Windows XP and Vista.

Because they are innovative

Wired Magazine states that the iPhone is reshaping the entire wireless industry. It is even attempting to enter the business enterprise market that currently belongs to RIM’s Blackberry. Let’s face it; Apple tends to give its customers what they want before they even want it. If that's not enough, Fortune named Apple as one of the most admired companies this year.

Because services cater to Apple stuff

Products like the iHome and most cars are made with the iPod in mind. For example, the Scion and the new Honda Civic now have connectors that are compatible with the iPod. These eliminate the need for those annoying FM transmitters just to play songs from your iPod. Also, there are certain websites out there that have a section dedicated entirely for Apple products instead of just sticking them in the electronics section.

Because of Steve Jobs

iMac, iPhone, iPod; products that caused the resurgence of the company since Steve Jobs retook the helm. Apple was a struggling business entity and desperately needed innovative ideas; ideas that can only come from a truly creative person like Steve Jobs. In fact, there are people out there that get every single new Apple device just because Steve Jobs was its creator.

Because of the awesome commercials

Apple really had some creative commercials to go with their innovative products. For example, the “Mac vs. PC” commercials really made you hate PC for being so useless. Admit it; the commercials were so good that you went straight to the Apple Store after you saw it on TV. Worse, you were watching it at their website!

Because they are easier to use

Every year, people have become increasingly annoyed at PCs, that they look to where the grass is greener, the Mac. Many of the reasons include: no useless trial software, only one operating system, iLife, OS X 10.5 loads faster.

Because of the ability to run Microsoft Windows and Office

Macs have a capability called "virtualization", this lets users run OS X and Windows simultaneously. This is one of the main reasons the New Museum in Manhattan switched to Macs. " The ability to run Windows made the Mac the perfect solution for us on a very practical operational level," says John Hatfield, the contemporary art museum's deputy director. - Businessweek (5/12/08)

Because we get creative using them.According to Macworld, creative people buy this for photoshop and final cut studio. iLife is created for people that create websites, blogs, home movies, and other entertaining hobbies. So obviously, these people all have a Mac or two.

There you have it, 10 reasons why people buy Apple products. What are you waiting for?! Go get them!

You've got to be kiiding, right....right?

apple is in no way at the cutting edge of technology.
take a look at the iphone, it makes calls, surfs the web, text messeging,IM client, plays mp3's and has touch screen interface. my phone that i had 2 years ago had all of that (well except for the crappy touch screen)not to mention the crappy proprietary software needed to use this with your computer. the iphone doesnt even support java applets, seriously everything you use on it has to be bought through apple, which means more propriatary crap.
people buy apple products for one reason, they're trendy, thats it, no other reason.

Macs are crap btw, in the industry they are regarded as computers for idiots. ok so what you can run VMware, on mac, ok. pc users get windows, mac, linux, freeBSD and a host of other OS's.

most services actually cater to PC users not mac users. online gaming, housecall, 90% of all hardware, online antivirus, remote desktopping, VOIP and ISP's all mainly cater to PC users not mac users.

people want easier OS's because they're not intelligent enough to use a REAL operating system.
actually all mac comes with when installed is TRIALWARE, none of it is full version unless you pay extra money for the full versions.
but as ive said before mac's are for idiots.

PC users also have photoshop, a host of webpage authoring software, ones that actually support W3C standards and true HTML. unlike the bastardized version that mac uses.

First off, I am not going to descend into using curse words.

In your list you make a few very strange statements.

You claim that people buy Macs to avoid Trial software? If you've ever bought a computer from a smaller computer store, you don't get trial software. Purchasing from propriatary name brands will give you trial software. Unfortunately, Apple will not let a company sell their products if they sell less than a million dollars worth of product a year. So you are stuck with paying their exhorbitant prices for their products. You cannot them serviced easily or cheaply (Yes, they DO require service)

You go on to point out that they actually get viruses. But the anti virus companies don't actively support the Mac OS.

You claim that the Mac OS is easier to use, but I find it the complete opposite. Single button mouse?!?!? How am I supposed to use that? On the topic of software, because Apple owns such a small percentage of the market, very few companies actually write software for it. So in essence, you get half the computer for twice the price.

WOO HOO! IT RUNS WINDOWS!!! Then why are you spending twice the money to run windows on a mac?

I have a Mac for doing video editing however, my PC does a better job has a better library of editing suites, and cost far less than a thousand dollars.

Games? I like games.
Photoshop is not a game.
And my PC has that too.

People buy things because Steve Jobs told them to? Are you kidding?
I hope those people all jump off the same bridge that Steve Jobs does, because that kind of mindless devotion to one person harkens back to the 30's. A dangerous idea to blindly follow one man's ideas of the way things should be.

Ditto goes for the Ads. People who buy things just because TV tells them to really have no mind of their own, and should be duct taped to the bridge jumpers i mentioned earlier.

Speaking of the Ads, I always felt that Mr. Mac was a Pompous Ass, with his subtle condisention. I always liked PC more. However I have never seen an ad for a computer and then rushed out to buy one!

oh, and this Apple makes things you didn't know you needed until they made it garbage? You referenced the Ipod. So Are you saying that apple made the first MP3 player? because you are sorely mistaken. Apple made an MP3 player that looked pretty. That's all.

The Iphone??? My UTStarcom had all the features of the iPhone (Aside from Multitouch and the tilty gizmo) and I bought it a year before iphone was announced. and being windows based it is fully compatable with MS Office. I'm not trying to say, "My phone is better than your phone LOLZ!!!!!!1" I am suggesting that you do a little research before you make rediculous claims.

I would like you to answer the comment about how much you got paid to write this drivel, because I'd like to know how to get in on this action. Free money with no journalistic ability. I can spew opinion, claim it to be fact, no back anything up, and write it rather poorly and just watch the cheques come rolling in.

What a sweet life you must be living!

Dear "anonymous",

This article is not a top 10 list on why apple is better. It is actually a top 10 list on WHY PEOPLE BUY apple products. AKA, it's what most people think. If people didn't think this way, apple will not be selling so much. Please learn how to read!

Thanks,

Just for the record, Mac products are not top quality. My first Ipod broke one month after the warranty went up, and I took very good care of it. My second Ipod broke a week after the warranty went up. My third one, my video Ipod.. has held up since purchasing it 8 months ago... So far. Oh and more quality?

I bought a Macbook in July of 2006. By September I was having severe problems with the OS and inability to boot and every error under the sun. My ethernet port is loose and the light on my numlock key never works (that doesnt really matter) however the loose ethernet port is a pain. I need to stick a deck of cards under the cable to prop it up so it works.. and yes.. I've tried many many different RJ45 connectors and none work.

Oh.. did I mention that last month my hard drive died SIX DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY WENT UP? Wow.. thats convenient you fucking muppets. Okay so let's call and see what they can do. Oh.. thanks YOU JUST GAVE ME A QUOTE FOR EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX A 50 GB HARD DRIVE. $800. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I bought and installed a 80GB hard drive for $25.

Now, I will say Ipods are nice.. and my Macbook is nice because it's lightweight and is FINALLY working decently now and it gets some complements.. but Jesus Christ what I would have done to avoid the hassle. If I could do it over I'd probably just get a Dell.. and that's difficult to say considering the face that I build desktops and I hate prebuilt computer things. The main reason is that they are indeed quite cheap and I use so many Windows programs and I'm so literate with Windows and troubleshooting it.. it irks me to not be able to use 98% of the programs I'd like to.

I wish more of the public who are buying Apple products would do their research properly. That way they wouldn't get ahead of themselves and put an excess amount of faith into what they're buying.

That's just setting oneself up for disappointment down the road, when they find out they're not magical trinkets of wonder that's above the rest of the industry.

In regards to the iMac, they can keep their preaching. I'll keep my less hassle, more compatible PC, that does everything a Mac does. For less money. Can also upgrade it down the road. I will really love to see an iMac user do the same without forking some serious bucks.

Just venting frustration here. Some Apple products are pretty good. But people need to stop getting ahead of themselves.

Jesus you guys get uptight, I don't think the post was about how amazing Apple products are, just about why people buy them.

I have a MacBook Pro firstly because i like the design, layout and operating system, and secondly because i feel it's easier to use, I don't understand why this is seen as a weakness, why should i need to learn the ins and outs of a PC when personally, I feel a Mac is easier. Since when is ease of use a bad thing? I don't think the majority of the creative industry that use Macs would appreciate being called idiots, and i think it's a massive over generalisation.

Also, I'm not aware of any trialware on my computer, and making general comments that you can't support is an immature way of getting your opinion across.

So essentially, we're down to software. This seems to be a big problem for you. I think that most of the people who own a Mac do so to use it creatively, i know i do, as an artist using CS to create prints. There isn't a lack of creative software and why would ANYONE buy a mac specifically to play games on it? That's not the market it's aimed at.
